Helping with the cost of living.
Hello everyone,
As a mark of respect to Her Majesty the Queen, the We Are In Beta team won’t be on hand to help you inside the community tomorrow. We’ll be back on Tuesday.
We - schools - Are In Beta - always learning (except for tomorrow).
This week:

💸 Helping students and families with the cost of living crisis.
The cost of living crisis is affecting us all. But it's hitting the poorest the hardest.
That's why we're helping Ben Jane (DHT, Oak Wood School, Hillingdon) to gather ways to support pupils and families this winter.
He wants to coordinate, share and learn from:
Strategies and ideas on how leaders are supporting their community.
Information on what support is already available for those that need it.
How we can break down the barriers between school and home to ensure parents/carers will reach out to us when they need our support.
If you're interested in:
being a part of it and
accessing his (and others’) strategies and resources…👇
💬 Curriculum conversations - matching subject leaders.
Developing curriculum is complex. It’s tricky to give it the time, thinking, discussion and input it needs. Especially if you work in a smaller department, in an isolated school or you don’t have access to other subject specialists.
That’s why we’re using the research we did into great curriculum practice to match up subject leaders to have curriculum conversations.
If you’re a:
senior leader, who wants to get your team involved and/or learn about subject specialisms yourself OR a
subject leader, who wants to meet and learn from other Heads of Department…

On a personal note
Wherever you stand on the idea of a constitutional monarchy, you cannot deny Her Majesty the Queen’s lifetime of devoted service.
Her passing has got me thinking a lot about service and what it means. For me, it means putting the needs of our community first.
Everything we do comes from suggestions made by our members.
They might be direct requests like Ann Donaghy’s INSET on tour, which was featured in Tes recently.
Or indirect suggestions about what you're already doing in isolation that we can take off your plates to benefit everyone else - like this research we did into every subject deep dive, in every school, in every inspection. Interestingly, Tes also covered the issue shortly after after us here.
The first project would have taken the Noel Baker team days, if not weeks, of data analysis. The Ofsted research took us three months. Yes, you read that right. Three. Months.
Now multiply that by the number of senior and subject leaders, who no longer have to spend that time doing that research. The time and money savings are astronomical.
So if you're about to start gathering intel from across schools, or sifting through thousands of rows public data to find good practice, let us know.
We are at your service.
