🚫 Tackling bullying with protected characteristics in mind: share and learn from pooled resources.
The safety and happiness of your students is as, if not more, important than their academic outcomes.
We're helping three of our members, Nick Haig, Tom Killigrew and Hollie Panther, to pool strategies tackling bullying.
More specifically, how best to safeguard students with protected characteristics from discrimination and victimisation.
They want to coordinate, share and learn from:
What research you have done or plan to do to inform your approach to tackling discrimination related bullying 🔬
How you have supported staff, students and parents to understand and tackle prejudice and discrimination 🤝
What resources you have provided to staff, students and parents to support the effective implementation of your approach 📝

Linda Emmett is a former HMI and Associate Headteacher at Little Lever School in Bolton.
As an HMI she’s conducted 40+ inspections - both Section 8s and 5s - across both Outstanding and Good schools, and schools in Special Measure and those with Serious weakness.
As Associate Head she’s helped steer them from Requires Improvement to Good, securing some very positive Progress outcomes this year.
Join us to discover the key misconceptions about knowledge, pedagogy and assessment she’s come across in her time.
Learn why they are important and what you can do to avoid them.

😱 What you're missing out on inside the Curriculum Thinkers Community.
You want the very best curriculum and results for your students. But achieving that is easier said than done.
It’s really hard to know everything you need to know, plan everything you need to plan and do everything you need to do.
That’s why I’ve summarised:
5 benefits of the our Curriculum Thinkers Community
4 exclusive areas you might not be accessing and
10 killer curriculum leadership resources our members have shared…
…to remind you how We Are in Beta can help you give your students the very best chances this year.
On a personal note
Reciprocity is a powerful thing.
Despite having 1,131 days to plan our wedding - Covid scuppered our plans in 2020 having got engaged in July 2019 - there was a very real possibility large parts wouldn’t be ready for last weekend.
Unprompted, my sister and her husband, who have three kids of their own, offered to look after our 18 month old daughter every Saturday and Sunday for the past three weekends to help us get the wedding over the line.
I will never forget their generosity. It makes me want to repay it many times over.
So what does this teach us?
Whether you’re looking improve the culture and capacity of your team, your students or your community, you need to do two things.
One, give them space to share their challenges. Two, create opportunities for them to help each other.
They will manage better, achieve more and go further as a result.
How do you do this in your settings?
I’d love to hear from you so we can create an even better culture inside We Are In Beta. Just reply to this email.
PS. If you want to learn more about the psychology of reciprocity, this book is brilliant.
